Glossary | ABLLS™-R: Developed by Dr. Jim Partington, the Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills-Revised (ABLLS™-R) is a criterion-referenced assessment and tracking system based on B.F. Skinner's functional analysis of language. | | | | Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS): Developed by Dr. Catherine Lord, is a standardized assessment that outlines the child's functioning level of play and socialization | | | | Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA): An approach to teaching behaviors and cognitive skills to children with autism. Applied behavior analysis uses careful monitoring and positive reinforcement or prompting to teach each step of a behavior.(1) | | | | Applied Verbal Behavior: The science in which tactics derived from the principles of behavior are applied to improve socially significant behavior and experimentation is used to identify the variables responsible for the improvement in behavior. | | | | Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA): The Board Certified Behavior Analyst is an independent practitioner who also may work as an employee or independent contractor for an organization. The BCBA conducts descriptive and systematic (e.g., analogue) behavioral assessments, including functional analysis, and provides behavior analytic interpretations of the results. The BCBA designs and supervises behavior analytic interventions. The BCBA is able to effectively develop and implement appropriate assessment and intervention methods for use in unfamiliar situations and for a range of cases. The BCBA seeks the consultation of more experienced practitioners when necessary. The BCBA teaches others to carry out ethical and effective behavior analytic interventions based on published research and designs and delivers instruction in behavior analysis. It is strongly recommended that the BCBA supervise the work of Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts and others who implement behavior analytic interventions.(2) | | | | | | | | | | | (1) John Cooper, Timoth Heron, William , Aplied Behavior Analysis, Second edition, Heward, 2007 (2) www.bcab.com (2) | | ©2008 by Autism Concepts, Inc.
